Welcome to Melanoma Action Coalition

ABOUT US

Our History

The Melanoma Action Coalition was established in 2014 by leaders of seven community-based foundations focused on increasing awareness about melanoma, providing education about sun safety, and raising money for melanoma research. Originally based in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States, we have since grown to include organizations and individuals from throughout the United States and Canada. We continue to welcome new members.

Our Mission

Organizations across the country are working every day to tackle melanoma, the most deadly of all skin cancers. Many of these organizations are grass-roots foundations established and led by those who have been touched personally by this disease. The Melanoma Action Coalition accelerates the end of melanoma by bringing together these organizations, who are at the forefront of this fight, and providing the support they need to amplify their effectiveness and impact. MAC also welcomes individual melanoma advocates and fundraisers.

Why MAC?

The Melanoma Action Coalition holds a unique position as an organization established by and for grass-roots melanoma foundations and individual melanoma advocates. MAC:

  • provides opportunities for education about melanoma prevention, detection, and treatment options;
  • provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and resources;
  • provides a means of replicating innovative education and prevention programs;
  • fosters collaboration among its members;
  • provides members with the support, tools, and expertise necessary to be successful and build capacity;
  • connects members to partner organizations; and
  • provides an amplified voice in public policy advocacy.

Our Goals for 2025

  • Continue to bring together melanoma organizations for collaboration, information and resource sharing, and support
  • Strengthen the message about skin cancer prevention, especially as it affects melanoma
  • Advocate for public policies that promote the goals of prevention, early detection, patient support, and research to find a cure
  • Partner with the medical and research communities as well as with other organizations who are working to help defeat melanoma.
